The Yámana and Selk´nam had sporadic contact with Europeans from the time of Ferdinand Magellan’s 1520 exploration along the coast until the late 19th century. This Yámana bone spearhead was collected in 1831 or 1832 by the expedition carpenter aboard the HMS Beagle during Charles Darwin’s historic voyage to Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost tip of South America.
